8.4.- Listening part 2: Job expressions and 'My job: airline pilot'

What job expressions do you remember?

My friend’s Emily story

This is the story of my friend Emily who is a Language Teacher. Her last email was about being between jobs because she got the sack and was tired of moonlighting. In addition, she sometimes had to burn the candle at both ends, so she didn’t want to continue working as a dog or a maniac.

Unfortunately, working for one school only was not enough for her to make the ends meet but holding down two school jobs was devastating. Therefore, one day, she went to visit a head hunter.

Suddenly, two weeks ago, she phoned me to tell me she was excited about having landed a job at the weekends as an Engish Teacher for a prestigious entertainment corporation whose commercial operations are exclusively on those days. So, despite having to burn the midnight oil at weekends, she doesn’t regret it because she stays there for clubbing as her cush job has always been being part of a nightclub staff member, which hadn't been achieved because of her inexperience in that field.

Regarding what she does on the weekdays, she was offered the chance to come back to the school where she used to knock off early with new perks that included Cambridge training and international academic exchanges and a pay hike since she has now corporate experience.

What a lucky friend I’ve got!
